San Antonio Bike Share was the first public bike share program in the state of Texas and the funding for the initial purchase of assets (stations, bikes, solar panels) came from federal grants administered by the City of San Antonio. The grants came from the Department of Energy, Centers for Disease Control, Paul S Sarbanes Transit in Parks and the Federal Transit Administration.
In just over 9 years of operation, San Antonio Bike Share has recorded over 700,000 trips and the system has close to quadrupled in size since it's began in 2011 with just 14 bike share stations and 140 bikes.
